Artists copy each other. I didn’t know this until yesterday.
I went to the Whitney and saw the exhibition “Picasso and American Art.” This exhibition juxtaposes Picasso’s work with the works of ten American artists. Each of these ten artists has incorporated Picasso’s work into their own work.
Seeing Picasso’s work reflected in these American artists’ work […]

I bought a bouncy ball at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City. It is half green and half blue, has a diameter of about 6cm, and bounces really high! I will feature this bouncy ball in video projects I’ll execute in London, Amsterdam, and Berlin. Yippee! I like my bouncy ball. […]

sound art : pop music :: avant-garde film : Hollywood movies
Today I experienced two sound art pieces: Max Neuhaus’s Times Square and Dream House.

This weekend I volunteered for the Come Out and Play urban games festival, which was hosted by Eyebeam. Come Out and Play featured 26 games ranging from snagu, a “camera-phone scavenger hunt,” to Cruel 2 B Kind, a game of “benevolent assassination.” On Saturday afternoon I volunteered for the game Manhattan MEGAputt, a par 1,000 […]

I watched the film Four Eyed Monsters last night at the IFC Center. The film is an autiobiographical account of the romantic relationship between Susan Buice and Arin Crumley, who are the film’s writers, directors, producers, and main characters. Susan and Arin also created a series of podcasts while they were producing the film.
In Four […]

Today I watched the Paul Sharits film T,O,U,C,H,I,N,G (1968) at the Anthology Film Archives. T,O,U,C,H,I,N,G is twelve minutes long and shot on 16mm film. Poet David Franks stars in the film, and the soundtrack features Franks’ voice incessantly repeating the word “destroy.”
This is what I heard while I experienced the film: “destroy destroy destroy destroy […]

The rules of the game:
There are six checkpoints scattered around Brooklyn and Manhattan. The first person to get through all six checkpoints without getting caught wins. You may not use bicycles, cars, or taxis to travel from checkpoint to checkpoint, but you can use public transportation or walk. Game participants must wear a white […]

I rode the subway from Williamsburg in Brooklyn back to the Upper West Side where I currently live.
While in Williamsburg I attended Conflux, a festival for psychogeography. At the festival I took a smelling tour of the neighborhood with The Smelling Committee. The Smelling Committee was an interactive group project. The group leaders gave each […]

Today I experienced Times Square in the rain. There were umbrellas and puddles everywhere.
When I was in high school I played the clarinet in the jazz band. First I played in the symphony band for a couple years, but then I switched to the jazz band because I had a crush on the jazz band […]

The visual version of surround sound, featured at Monkey Town.
In the back room at Monkey Town there is a theater with four screens, one on each wall. While I was there, researchers from The Institute for the Future of the Book used the screens primarily to show us a presentation about their work. One of […]
